Picked up a small swivel vise last week at a reasonable price ( who wouldnt ?)
Looks like it is a early 40's Craftsman garage vise.
One of the jaws is missing the end but it came home regardless.

I looked for Max-El alloy steel and could only find a reference for maxel steel by Crucible Industries trademark issued in 1960. With the "Long C" logo, I'm with you about early '40s for your vice. The other models in that advertisement are Rock Islands and very desirable.
