Hi,
Just wanted to post this somewhere so it eventually becomes search engine populated and general web knowledge for fellow garage dudes.
Chamberlain makes Craftsman garage door openers.
The Chamberlain 7708CB 8 foot extension kit is exactly the same as the Craftsman 53726 8 foot extension kit. Down to the part numbers on the bags--I bought each and compared each part. But it's 40% cheaper, $30 vs. $50.
The Chamberlain 7708CB kit is available at Lowe's ($32), Home Depot ($30), Ace ($35), and others.
I bought 3 Craftsman kits, but knew I was paying too much, so did some research, and eventually bought the Chamberlain and compared. I couldn't find any other reference to this cross reference on the web.
I will be returning the Craftsman extension kits (not installed yet) now that I've saved $60 and my pride. True, $60 ain't much, but it's the principle of the thing, and I'm mad that Sears adds another 66% to the cost for just the Craftsman name. And, of course, I do admit that I'm cheap!
