Hi,
Just wanted to post this somewhere so it eventually becomes search engine populated and general web knowledge for fellow garage dudes.

Chamberlain makes Craftsman garage door openers.

The Chamberlain 7708CB 8 foot extension kit is exactly the same as the Craftsman 53726 8 foot extension kit. Down to the part numbers on the bags--I bought each and compared each part. But it's 40% cheaper, $30 vs. $50.

The Chamberlain 7708CB kit is available at Lowe's ($32), Home Depot ($30), Ace ($35), and others.

I bought 3 Craftsman kits, but knew I was paying too much, so did some research, and eventually bought the Chamberlain and compared. I couldn't find any other reference to this cross reference on the web.

I will be returning the Craftsman extension kits (not installed yet) now that I've saved $60 and my pride. True, $60 ain't much, but it's the principle of the thing, and I'm mad that Sears adds another 66% to the cost for just the Craftsman name. And, of course, I do admit that I'm cheap!

later,
Dan H, St. Louis

I'm new to this forum and would like to add to dangdudes post. Searspartsdiirect tried to sell me Sears part #53726 for $106.00 8ft extension kit. I suspected that because Sears products are almost always contracted to other manufacturers that Chamberlain might make my opener as the images on Chamberlains openers packages are similar. Craftsman opener 8ft extension kit 106.00. Chamberlain 8ft. extension kit 7708BC $32.00 at Home Depot. Both kits are identical except for the price of course. The sad part of this whole fiasco is that Sears told me that their kit was exclusive to their opener and that there was no safe substitute. Buyer beware.
