On clearance, $259, from regular $370.

I've been watching this one for a little while (last one I needed to complete the set). Last night it disappeared from the website entirely. Today it showed back listed as clearance. Anyone who has a matching box and has wanted one of these to hang on the side of it, I think this is "last call for alcohol".

Other things I have seen do that on the website were always subsequently discontinued.

I know the deal is lukewarm at best, but this seemed like the best place to post and I wanted to post something. Lately sears has been closing out items that were on my long term wishlist faster than I like, it's been tough beating them to the punch.

Thanks for posting.
Looks like Sears is discontinuing the Ball-Bearing GRIPLATCH boxes.

I'm going to pick one up, I have the matching box.

I have this side chest as a standalone. It fits perfectly between my workbench and the interior door to the house.

Its really nice for what it is. Cheapest I've seen it has been $289.

Looks like the 40" single drawer is on sale as well.

The whole set is being discontinued
right now top and bottom is on sale for 750.
I just grabbed the middle draw for 170$ after taxes thanks to my rewards points :rocker:

I like my Griplatch stuff, but geez, you can buy the HF chest for $100 more...

Have you seen any harbor freight boxes lately? They have gotten cheaper. I was in a harbor freight today and looked at the box, completely different from when I was considering a harbor freight box and now I think they are alot flimsier now.

Ill take my griplatch over the harbor freight box (that I saw today)
The funny thing is I swore I would never buy a craftsman box lol

Grabbed my final 52" 14 drawer Griplatch last month since it was clearance and 902.00 - Craftsman club members can get this now for 802.00 bummer - but I didn't want to end up with a new style.

probably why the griplatch is on closeout. most folks shop on price, even if it's false economy. i saw only one craftsman professional box listed, so i suspect those are already gone.

The stuff Sears is selling is ****... and I'm a Craftsman guy. I saw that side cabinet in the store a month ago and could not believe how thin and cheap it was. Almost made me sick. I checked my store just now and that thing is way gone, nothing for at least 50 miles. Now, Sears also carries Viper, which is same design, better quality aqnd looks like a better price...http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00931183000P?mv=rr

I am actually pretty happy with my tool box. I am a weekend warrior. What really sold me on these boxes was the actual grip latch themselves, so easy to open and close unlike the husky box. When I was in my store I was a little sketchy about these boxes, but when weight is added to these boxes they feel ten times better.

I do know sears is upgrading the weight capicity from 75lb drawers like mine to 100lb drawers, but on the bright side if my box breakes withen the next three years then I will probably get one of these new upgraded versions, but I see my box lasting for a quite a few years unless I decide to upgrade and give the box a little help breaking :rocker::rocker:

I read that all the time about their toolboxes, but what I don't get is why that's a problem. It's not a welding table or an anvil, thinner is better. It's lighter and rolls easier that way. Thin sheetmetal will do just fine. As long as I'm not driving it into battle, it doesn't need to be tank.

I'm all for overbuilding something, using thicker steel than is necessary just for extra strength, right up until the point that item becomes something I have to push/pull/or carry. Then it should be built heavy enough to carry out it's function, and no more.

As of today they don't have the signs in the store updated for these prices.

Maybe your stuff has never had cars backed up into it or watch some ***** slam a too-full drawer shut to the point where hardened tool steel deforms thin sheet toolbox steel. I'm all for inexpensive but when HF can do it right Sears has no excuse. That's all he's saying, from what I read.

And don't hold your breath thinking they're replacing Griplatch with something better.

If you need griplatch pieces. Look on sears outlet. I needed a second side chest (because of my OCD). I located one 120 miles away and just picked it up Saturday for $183.00. Pic of my toolbox with just one side chest.

@ dcarden.. I have the exact same setup.... (mostly). I bought a 2nd side cabinet to do the drawer swap on the bottom chest, didn't like the deep drawer there. And unless you're 6' 10" like me can you see into/use the top of the top box? Those 2 full width middle drawers are nice, but add to the total height of it so no one else I know can see into the top drawers.

I also bought most of mine from the sears outlet.

I'm planning on building an angle iron base with upgraded casters 6x2. Will need to build a small step to see in the top, I'm just 6'2". Not to jump off topic, I just changed all the locks to the same key number. If anyone needs a key and lock number I will see if I have it.

No they are upgrading the thickness of the metal as well as weight capacity, also changed the look of the ball-bearing grip-latch

I have the top and bottom of the 40" that is being dis-continued and I love it, except for the fact that they have a big problem with quality control on these.

I think also the new boxes are "Assembled" in the US :rocker:

I noticed this at my local store. I grabbed some dial calipers off the shelf and measured the new tool boxes vs. old and they were both the same gauge steel. the one thing that was different was the handle and the internal latch was a little bigger. I really couldn't find any other improvements.

Really ??? hmmm little dissappointing, I was told they were making them beefier and upgrading the draw slides to handle more weight. Also the added hydrolic struts at the top of the boxes.

I wonder if I could by some hydrolic struts for my box and just bolt them in

I have 3 @ Griplatch 52" tool chests. All the same model numbers. 1st one is about 2006-2007 vintage, 2nd 2010, 3rd 2013. Seems like by 2013 they were using less control, everything being equal, the drawers act better ( same amount of weight ) on the older ones I have. Just seems less well made and cheaper. I wish I didn't notice it but I do.

Picked up the 41" middle chest from Sears in Brockton, MA today for about $142 out the door. It was the floor model and came without a lock, but it's in nice shape. May still try to pick up the 6 drawer as well, given the price.

A new griplatch ball-bearing side chest just sold for over $400 on Ebay with shipping included. So glad I got my two already.
