Craftsman air compressor filter and switch questions

I just bought a Craftsman 5 HP 2-stage compressor that has been in storage. The foam air filter just crumbles when touching it. I would like to upgrade the filter if possible. I'm enclosing a picture of the mounting area for the filter.

Also, I would like to lower the cut-in/cut-out pressures. Is there an adjustment on this type switch?

Thanks for any advice.

Make something up to hold a green scotchbrite. As for turning it down, no reason to if its working right, belts are snug and its pumping good.
This goes along with an earlier thread, a 2 stage at hi pressure makes up for any losses in plumbing and feed along the way. Its the reason to have 2 stage.
Take the boiler drain out, put a ball valve on, test unit then hose to a filter regulator and get a hose reel. 2 stage lets one run heavy 1/2 impacts down 50 ft of 3/8 hose.

Unplug the compressor, then remove the top of the pressure switch. If it's adjustable there should be a nut with a spring under it. There are several designs, you can google pressure switch adjustment and there's a PDF with the most popular and info on adjusting.

As for the air filter, it almost looks like something should bolt to the intake?

Thanks for all the ideas and links. They are very helpful to get me thinking. I have the filter housing that mounts to the head. It is 2-piece plastic to hold the foam filter. It doesn't have a convenient ****** to attach a silencer. Right now I've taken sberry's advice and installed a couple of layers of Scotchbrite in the housing. I'm thinking a flat metal plate cut appropriately to attach to the head with a gasket and weld a pipe union to the metal plate to accept a screw on filter.

About the pressure switch, I have a 3 hp compressor in the adjoining building set to come on at about 100 psi. I'm thinking about hooking them in tandem so one will kick in just below the other. I took the top off this switch and was able to lower the pressures about 15#, so it won't do what I want. I see switches that are adjustable in the range I need and are relatively inexpensive. Are there any hazards in connecting two compressors to the same manifold?

I have 2 comps hooked together, use the tanks on both. I actually have the breaker off to the second. Both plumbed to the same manifold.
Is the other a single or 2?
