I got this Craftsman welder today, and it is a beauty! Well, not really. It's pretty dang ugly, but pretty cool I think. I weighs a lot is about all I know about it, other than it's missing the leads, and plug. The gentleman I got it from told me that it belonged to his father. I plan to try to get it working, depending on how expensive it will be to re-insulate all the wires and stuff inside.

I've had that welder for a number of years and am just now getting to the point where I'm going to get it up and running. Did you ever find any additional information out there on the unit?

Cab037, I have not found any more info. on it. It has been moved to the very back of the restoration line for the moment. I'm really not sure what to do with it. Post pictures of yours if you can.

Mine is in the midst of being torn down and restored. I've repainted the wheels and bottom carriage. I'm working on stripping the main case. I've also used some rubberized splicing tape to re-insulate some of the wires near the amperage selection sockets. I'll post some pictures tonight after I get in the shop.

I don't know where to start with mine as far as what should be insulated again. It looks pretty dangerous inside! I'm interested in seeing your pictures. Thanks.

a couple layers of heat shrink tubing is what i used by the yards when redoing a old lincoln welder i have. the cloth covered wiring was fine under the deteriorating insulation. its inexpensive on ebay when from china. i used like 6 different sizes and shipping was never over 2 weeks. good luck with ur project.

Here's the pictures of my machine in its current state of disssembly. Note the expanded metal cover for the back of the machine. I don't think yours was still installed on your machine.

Looks good Cab'. :)

Just going off on a tangent for a moment, do you chaps have oil filled/cooled ARC welders across there? Only asking as I can't recall a thread mentioning one.

Following this. Your face lift looks great Cab. I've passed on these a few times as I wasn't sure how much of a PIA it'd be to get it up and running.
