They are made in the same Mexican factory, usually Liftmaster rails are better quality and sometimes they have some anti-vibration pads that sears doesn't, but internally they are the same. based on rails alone, I would get the 8550 over Sears, plus it is easier to get parts from LM than it is from Sears.
