I think that might be a wood-only saw..... Call and see if the saw has a speed reduction, like a jackshaft. Can't see the side of the table where the motor and v-belt is.

Someone rattle canned the table and all, it looks. :shocking:

Wait, your telling me you DON'T paint the table on your bandsaw? Man you are missing out, such a performance increase. :spit:

It's a decent little saw. Much better than any of the current plastic table top saws. Just keep in mind it limitations. If you plan on doing heavy resawing or the like, don't even think about it. For that saw I feel $75 would be my top, that is if all bearings were good and belt was good. I don't like homemade stands like that, and the fact that the current owner spray bombed the entire thing, makes me wonder how well it has been taken care of.

I am looking at one in my area also, do you have a picture reference by any chance? I would like the option of cutting wood or metal.

It is a wood only model. Can you slow it down to cut metal? Yes, but it really isn't stiff enough to cut metal except for sheet or slowly aluminum. You will be really taxing the saw by trying to cut metal. The frame just doesn't have the stiffness to properly hold tension on a metal cutting blade. It is made out of pot metal and a steel tube for the column IIRC. Not a cast iron framed saw like most 14"+ saws.

I have one that was damaged shipping it to me and I've never gotten to use it because the damn upper wheel adjuster is impossible to find.

Sorry, I'm not an expert on these Craftsman bandsaws, but for it to cut metal well it has to go fast for wood, and super slow for metal. The metal cutting ones usually have a transmission or a jackshaft with a speed reduction using v-belts. There are a few threads out there for what makes a good metal cutting bandsaw, when I was looking I found a few that had home-made speed reducers on a craftsman bandsaw.

I ended up buying a model 143 powermatic saw, a little more money and weight but very rigid and slow speed for metal.

I just sold one for $ 40.00. Looks like that one but not repainted, but with a half dozen blades (some new in package) and on mobile base with four large wheels. The motor is worth something!

Yeah, I'm in no hurry to get a band saw. This one has been calling out to me because it seems to always be on Craigslist. But that is probably not a good thing.
