I purchased a ~1948 Craftsman bench grinder (115.7397) that was advertised as working but with a frayed power cord. Unfortunately, the toggle switch took a hit during shipping and broke. I purchased a new cord/switch and after tearing into it, have some concerns on how it was wired.

Does anyone have a wiring diagram for this model, or one they could look at?

I removed the light wiring and I’m left with the following

From motor housing

Black
Red
White

Capacitor

Black
White

The as received wiring was

Line in (black) to red
Line in (white) switched to black

Capacitor black to red
Capacitor white to white

First You need to start with the hot wire form cord (Black) to one side of the switch than another wire from the other side of the switch to the capacitor than from the capacitor to the "start/run" lead to the motor than from the motor to the white (Nuetral) wire from the power cord as this completes the whole electrical circut. You would need to "ground" the grinder using the "green" wire from the power cord and attach it to the base of the grinder.

I hope this helps you out. It really is a simple design and any electric motors (Capacitor starting) wiring diagram can also help you out. Take Care.

I have one of these, thing is built to take a nuclear blast! Strange though...for such a stout machine they chose to use a 1/2" spindle rather than a 5/8" ... never could figure out the logic there.
