Sears/Craftsman made exceptional tools in the 80s/90's - not sure what that model is but they are easy to maintain and fix if need be

It is not the 'block' grinder that has a following here and other sites.
It depends upon price, condition, and intended use.
If it were me, I'd wait for a 'block' grinder on CL and go with 1/3 for light duty jobs: light wire wheeling, light grinding.
There a number of block grinder threads from which you can get lots of information.

this one works, and will cost me 30 dollars.
i have a line on a 1/3 block grinder 397-19391 , works, 25 dollars. both will cost me 2 hour round trip fuel in the 40mpg corolla.
how much power difference is there really between a 1/4 and a 1/3 hp? really would like a more powerful one, of course......but i figure going with one of these is better than the newer junk?
Buy them both, coarse & fine stones in one and put coarse & fine wire in the other.
2 hours round trip, even if the grinders were free, I would wait more a more powerful model. Note: I am a Craftsman fan, holding out for a 1/2 hp or larger block grinder. Keep in mind that a lot of us do this for the thrill of the chase. You can always go to HF and get a cheap grinder that will work for a while.

Isn't that grinder housing all plastic? I don't think it is a very durable grinder.

Perhaps I missed it somewhere but what are your intentions for it? That's the real important question. That unit would be ok with a wire wheel and stone but its best strength would be as a buffer. Two cloth wheels, one dedicated to course rougeand one for polish...
it will be pretty useless for grinding with any load pushed on it.
I use a variable speed Delta 1/3 horse as my buffer, a 1/3 HP craftsmen 1x30 belt sander, and a 1/2 horse baldor with a 10" expanded wheel. Between the 3 my basic grinding needs are met.
Just an opinion...

I think I will wait for a 1/2 or 1 hp grinder.
