I know this is a long shot since most of you fine folks are so far away from me, but what the heck, it's free to post.

I am looking for two or maybe even three of the old style red and gray Craftsman work benches. Drawer configuration not important.

Maybe someone on here who is a lurker is within driving distance and has one/some?

My budget is too small ever to have one of those huge truck brand tool boxes, so I am loading up on the vintage C-man stuff :)

I'd love one of those. When were they made? Specs?

Well, I don't know their years of production, but it was long, I think. My dad has two (well, he gave me one) that were purchased in the 1950s. I found the original instructions with them, and if you are interested, I can take some pics so you can read them...they aren't long.

They have way more primitive drawer slides than most here would accept...at least the older ones do. There actually are no slides, really. Just a u-channel on the drawer that fits into a u-channel on the frame, and that's it. Another, newer one (80s maybe?) that I got from my dad does have drawer slides, but certainly not ball bearing.

Anyway, I want a couple more, people!

Doesn't it make you sad when you want something and can't find it?

I missed one of these in a town close to me on CL a couple weeks ago. Another was listed close by on the 24th, but the seller never responded to my message. No others on CL within 100 miles!

Sears cranked out thousands of these things, and now I have to hunt for them! :headscrat

This probably won't help you, but there's a pair of those on the LA Craigslist for $100. got any long haul trucker friends?

D'oh!

I could find a shipper through uship.com but would end up paying ten times what the benches cost!

Thanks for the reply though c:beer:

I don't have a pic of mine handy, so I had to search for a WHILE to find one online. I just don't understand how they cranked out so many of these damn things and I have to search for them rather than trip over them.:headscrat

most people probably don't know what they are..... you will probably be searching craigslist for a long while through lots of crappy benches to find what you want. I can say i have never seen one before.
