What is a good price for a 1/2 HP unit? I found one and want to know what to offer.

Around $50 would be a "good price" assuming it's in great shape. (<$50 is getting into "you ****" territory). If you really want one soon then between $75-100 would be an OK price.

A lot depends on the individual unit. (pedestal included and complete with tool rests and shields raises the value)

Ok, a little background might help. It it is in ok shape, it definitely shows quite a bit of use. No stand, everything looks to be there. It does have a light.

So, it appears that if I can get it for $40.00 or less I would be doing well.

If it's just OK w/o stand I'd say $35-40. (assuming it runs fine - no slop in the bearings, no wobble and no vibration)

I recently picked up a 1/2 hp model 397 for $55 or 60. Is missing 1 eye shield and the water pan on the front. Had a vibration I pointed out so the guy came down some on his price. Got it home and removed the wire wheel and vibration gone and seems to run very smooth. I did not notice any bearing play when I had it apart cleaning everything up.

I saw a 1/3 HP locally listed on CL for $40. I thought about getting it, but would have had to drive through 1 hour of Atlanta traffic.

Apparently the best blocks are the ones with serials starting with 257 or 397, so if it isn't that, I don't know if that changes the value a whole lot. Everyone here is pretty well in agreement, if it's complete and spins true, $40 isn't a bad price to pay at all, even without a stand.

1/2HP is a good find too, I'd jump on it as long as it runs good.

Thanks for all of the info. I am going to see what kind of deal I can get on it.
