Not sure if anyone cares. But I thought I would donate something I was excited to find out. The Drive gear from Craftsman Ratchet Repair kit 1/2" 43447 (ratchets 44985, 44975 among others), fit the box head ratchet perfectly with the added benefit of a quick release button on the back. It works for the 1/2 I know, So I assume the 43437 and 43427 kits would work for the 3/8 and 1/4 respectively. Not sure about the rest of the parts. But if the gear is bad in yours, you may be in business.

I used to sell these kits on ebay, but Sears is re-issuing the kit recently. They lack the star in the right hand corner of the package that says USA, but the kit can be had at most stores. Anyone needs any help locating kits I still have some and know how to get them. I have had luck simply bringing in a bad gear to a ratchet and the employees give me a kit without hassle. Not like the old days.

The box Head ratchet part numbers I found in another Garage Journal post are as follows, they arent good for much other than reference. But I thought they might be beneficial included in this post. Any questions let me know, I have become pretty versed on the repair kits over the past couple years while I have been collecting and selling them.

3/4" 9c 4480
1/2 4419
3/8 4429
1/4 4495

Also, I wanted to add (1/26/2017) that if you are wanting the "correct" Drive gear (for the 1/2 Boxhead) you will find it in the vintage repair kit 1/2" 4498 (ratchet cats: 44970, 44971 Long, 77972 Flex). This is the NON Quick Release gear. So it would be correct, though not as easy to find and not as convenient as the quick release. This kit is extremely hard to find as it is intended for the old Flying V Butterfly Ratchets.

Hi,

Great info - thanks for sharing!

I was wondering if you knew how to get the screws for a 1/2 inch boxhead ratchet?

I understand that Sears never sold consumer repair kits for the boxheads, but Sears would repair them, so repair kits did exist?

Or is there another type of screw that would fit the boxhead series?

Thanks!
