For those of us stuck with the Craftsman homeowners grade boxes....

They always have these deep drawers which are basically useless. The lb rating per drawer and sheet metal is so thin you cant load them up, so to get more storage I ordered a few shorter drawers.

I went from a 5 drawer bottom chest to a 6 drawer. I replaced the 6" drawer with a 4" and 2". Then for the middle chest I took out the 4" and replaced with 2 2". Then in the top chest I took out that stupid organizer bin and replaced with a 2" drawer.

The 2" drawer for the bottom chest is on backorder, but the other drawers and the new slides came in.

What a transformation! I'd also like to hear more about how you did it. Thanks!

When they make the cabinets they make spots for the slides every 2" in all the chests. All it takes is going to www.searspartsdirect.com and typing in your model number and ordering spare part slides and drawers.

5 drawers and slides with shipping was around $100 when I found a promo code. It's still not the best box, but it's a way to make one a little better.

If you had put that $100 into a better box to begin, you could have got a better box... Just sayin.

Unless things change, I'm done with any new Craftsman boxes.

Nice upgrade! Have a similar craftsmen box. I've always wondered if I could upgrade to the ball bearing slides?....

They still aren't good boxes, but if you already have one it's a way to get a little more use out of it without spending $500 for a better box.

i dont think you can switch it to ball bearing though.
