Am I missing something here? Milwaukee's 2603-22CT kit is quite possibly the same drill in a different package, and $200 with 2 batteries and a better warranty...

Well, Milwaukee, Craftsman C3 and Ryobi are all TTI-manufactured tools.

That doesn't necessarily mean that they're identical, but one needs only look at the Ryobi One+ lineup to see the same tools badge-engineered as Craftsman C3.

It's plausible that they could rebadge a Milwaukee tool for the C3 line.

Yeah I know they're all TTI... though having owned both Ryobi and Milwaukee (and used Crapsman) I'm pretty sure Ryobi/Craftsman aren't up to the same quality as Milwaukee, but I imagine they shared some things from the Fuel drill rather than reengineering a brushless motor system.

$60 or so sounds like a bargain for a second (probably higher quality) battery, a longer warranty, and a much better selection of tools. Especially if you have to buy an extended warranty for more $$$$. Not that I'd buy an extended warranty for much of anything, let alone from a company I have no faith in the future of. What's the Craftsman battery warranty? Milwaukee is 2 years on compact batteries, and I'd say there's a good chance of that coming in handy from my experience.

I agree that the Milwaukee is a step up in quality. If I did not have a investment in the C3 I would go with the Milwaukee.

The sears warranty is one year.

You can find them on ebay, there was 2 models, one with an adjustable depth that is identical to the current ryobi, and a older with out the adjustment

I am optimistic, and really want to see a greater push into the brushless arena. It's possibly that Craftsman will treat this as a sort of trial that helps determine if/when other brushless C3 tools make it down the pipeline.

Ryobi and Ridgid haven't come out with any brushless tools yet, but AEG, an international TTI brand which has similar models as Ridgid, came out with a brushless hammer drill not too long ago.

Well standard drill have dc motor which usually have brush to do the commutation, those brush eventually use and need to be replace, with a brush less motor you don't have that problem. That's the reason why I've always preferred ac motor. Brushless dc motor aren't that common after all.

Far more beneficially, there's no friction from the brushes on the commutator, and no heat from that friction. Brushes are cheap and easy to replace... they just ****.
