Hello,
I was at the mall today, my friend was haggling over some jewelry so I went to Sears to check out their tool selection. The hardware dept was pretty lame to be honest, lots of empty floor space with a few lawn mowers, table saws but obviously had seen better days. I was looking at their tool boxes and the upper tier models are actually not that bad, their contour models with the round top are actually pretty cool.
Anyway, I went to check out their screwdrivers to see if I could find any Western Forge. I was looking at the resin handles and they were 30% off and picked over big time. However, I found a 1/8 x 4 standard and a scratch awl that I could use. I was shocked to see that they were made in Canada and actually of reasonable quality. They are clearly designed to emulate the Western Forge design. The handle is nice and clear and feels good in your hand. The shank was nicely finished as well, including the serrated tip which I love. They were marked $3.49 for the screwdriver and $2.99 for the awl. I didn't notice it at the time but the awl tip is a little rough, I might return it but I almost never go to Sears. They had a similarly designed driver in the socket isle, but it was made in China and had a cloudy, cheaper feeling handle and cheap chrome plating.
I'm quite impressed with the screwdriver, and will probably be going back for more, maybe on boxing day. I looked at everything else and these were probably the only decent thing there besides the tool boxes.
If you're in Canada, you should check them out!
