You can't say robogrip in here! That's a dirty word around tool junkies! It's like saying the "F" or "S" word around small children.

Censor it, man! It's R***grip. ;)

Robogrip, just another Craftsman gimmick. Now I see their new gimmick in the latest Club flyer is the "Crossforce" wrench.

I think that was actually a gearwrench/danaher idea... that craftsman stole/copied/paid them to make for them. the "twisted design" I haven't tried a set yet but I can see where it might be a little more comfortable on your hand when your tryin to get leverage on a stuck bolt. However in that case I usually am bustin out the impact or at least a breakover bar :)

Robogrips are not a common tool, however I do have a great use for them. We leave them and a screwdriver with our keg stuff, to attach and adjust the CO2. Other then that, I have only come up with one other use, and that was so specialized I would be the only one here knowing what I am talking about.

I saw another company selling those twist wrenches before they showed up under the Craftsman name.

I can't believe Sears, HD, Lowes or anyone else still sells those Crapogrip pliers. I wonder how much Bob Vila got paid for pushing those wretched things?

Maybe they're not. Epstein's is usually the last hurrah for discontinued tools/defunct manufacturers.

Left handed lock nut, hold down mechanism on a grinder attachment, that if not properly greased (hence, I am off work), seizes on the shaft, and as it is round and has a very minute ribbing, the Robogrip, almost perfectly fits it.

Ya know I used the Robogrips a lot putting up my last steel building. They worked well for holding the square nuts that many older buildings had/have.

Wonder if they are covered under the Sears "satisfaction guarantee"? If so, return them for something else that you might get better use out of....

When was the last time you used the return under the satisfaction guarantee?

I have thought of returning my regular ratchets, and keeping only the thin pro line, and the round head fine tooth, style. But what I would get instead would be a catalog only purchase!

Okay, to be fair that was two years ago and it was at a different Sears than the one I refered to in my "other" thread. :(

One minus, shopping there can be addictive!

Never bought from them online, but when I found them (local for me), I had to watch the budget in there, as well as the wish list....

Things I saw that I wish I could have bought
old vise
10" bench grinder
6' (yep that's FOOT), verner caliper:wtf: (would I need that for):lol_hitti

Plus one, Awhile back I bought some of their high polish Bonney discontinued metric box wrenches, I was over an hr away and near home before I discovered the biggest one had a very advanced rust spot! I knew I was going back to KC two months later and left it in the car to return to them, sure enough two months later I return it to them unused, but minus my lost receipt, no problem, they immediatly replaced it. Of course I guess they figured I really did not need the receipt since they have the only remaining inventory of new Bonney tools left! For those who are not able to visit in person, you are missing a rare opportunity. The staff are right there always ready to help, old wood floors and a building well over 100yrs. Quite addictive for tool guys. For those living close by ask them to show you the stuff in the basement, I was amazed.

Yup... I've ordered just one single wrench from them before. if you call them, they sound lik ethey are still a mom and pop business. Great people and the service has been great too. I would not hesitate to recommend them.

I bought from them and I live in North Carolina. I emailed them a list of what I wanted along with the zip code to ship to. They sent me a total, I sent a money order and my tools were here a few days later.

And those Bonney wrenches are great. I got me some and some for my dad. I asked him what tool brands were used when he grew up during the depression and told me most mechanics around where he grew up(South New Jersey) used Bonney. I got him a set for old times sake. He was really suprised and said seeing that name brought back alot of memories from when he was a kid.

How well does the Bonney compare to say Craftsman, S&K, Proto, etc...?

I don't know... Bonny high chrome is really it... I have some of all the other brands as well, but I would rate Bonney a click or two above the others, at least as they are manufactured today.

The chrome Bonney I would rate above Craftsman and current SK carried at our welding supply store. The only Proto wrenches I have looks exactly like the matte finish Husky, but I like the feel of the Bonney better. Actually I have a lot of Bonney wrenches in Chrome and the duller finish and I like all of them. Many of them looks my old Armstrong. Another guy I know that works in auto repair for 30+ years told me he considered his Bonney the equal of anything he got off a truck. I have only 3 or 4 Snap On so I can't really agree or disagree with that.

If you need standard line wrenches, I highly suggest considering buying them from Harry E , once their supply of the new Bonney is gone, you will never again see any more. I would put the quality of a new Bonney line wrenchs up against those made by others any day of the week!

From Harry Epsteins:

Thanks for the good comments.
Yes, we are still a mom and pop store,
(actually a father, uncle and son store.)
and we sell to anyone that wants to buy.

PS.

In defense of our Robogrip buy:

We believe that these are the last Robogrips that are American made.
We went into Sears to check and they were all made in China.

For anyone passing through KC you have to put the place on your list of places to stop. Yes can be addicting. Reminds me of what most stores used to be. I had my youngest daughter with me my last stop. Wanted her to see what the big boxes and malls are not. She liked it enough I am guessing she will make me stop next time through.

It will go like this. That will be $75 for items I looked up on the web and $200 for items I found while browsing. At least I will enjoy the trip as much as my wife did with her shopping.
