Hello Garage Members

I probably going to pick up the 10in craftsman cobra, My sears has it for $30 bucks, however I was pretty set on the comfort grip knipex @$40 on amazon

Thus my question to your guys is the craftsman handle better than the reg. knipex handle, as the regular will cost me the same on amazon as the craftsman...

Oh is the verdict out on the quickset version....
all of these options???

I feel guilty getting such a nice tool for my use, considering channellock will serve my purpose just fine

I really like the Craftsman ones and they have a full lifetime warranty unlike knipex which just warranties defects. My jaws have gotten pretty worn and I am considering taking them back to sears for an exchange.

As for the grips the Craftsman grips are quite nice, way better than the plain knipex handles.

Cobras ain't Channellocks... like at all. I love my Cobras for things I could never imagine even trying Channellocks. In the last 2 weeks... removing and installing studs, adjusting a stuck tie rod sleeve, and today, removing rusted exhaust nuts a socket rounded off. I was impressed.

I have the Craftsman 7 & 10" set. Purely pragmatic choice, I bought the tool groupon last month and had some points, they ended up only being like $13 each.

I wouldn't say they're better or worse. You can buy the Craftsman version on ebay for ~26 with free S&H.

I have regular grip Knipex, comfort grip Knipex, and I used to have Craftsman Cobras (I sold them).

The Knipex comfort grip are nice, but to be honest I always reach for my Knipex regular handled pliers unless I am going to be doing a single repetitive task at a workbench. The comfort handles can be somewhat bulky in tight work areas, and they can cause the pliers to catch or hangup when pulling them out of something like a tool belt. That gets old fast.

The Craftsman handles are thicker than the regular Knipex handles. They are double dipped, so they can be more comfortable for some. I sold my Craftsman Cobra pliers and replaced them with Knipex regular handled cobras because I found the Craftsman handles to be nice when dry, but slippery when my hands were greasy or sweaty. Not a huge deal, but it made it harder to quickly manipulate the pliers one handed, so I made the switch. The regular Knipex Cobra handles have a nice texture that just works in every situation I put them in. The only drawback I can think of (related to the Knipex regular handles) is that they can be a little harder to clean if you are the type that needs tools to always look brand new.

I'm planning on sneaking in a Halloween coupon I got, it's ten bucks in points for a $30 purchase

I saw the ones on ebay, and have them on my watch list just waiting for when I feel impulsive


anyone have any input on the quickset version,
I guess don't need it as I don't work in tight areas

But if someone told me I can't live without it, I may start losing sleep over it

The Cobras are nice but I prefer Channel lock brand if space allows. The cobras are smaller and can fit into tighter spaces, but they also flex a lot more than the channel locks. I admittedly have a good grip, but feel that they can flex too much much.
