Craftsman collectors I need your help

So here’s the story, my father inherited his grandfather’s craftsman toolbox some 20 odd years ago and he’s been talking about restoring it ever since. I’ve secretly been researching this specific box for the past few months and I was able to find the date stamp thanks to you guys which tells me the box is a 59 “Advertising Metal Display Co.” box but that is all I can find pretty much. I did find an add that tells me the box was originally $84.50 ($720.81 in today’s money)

Ultimately I’m trying to find images of what the box looked like originally in 59. Recommendations on paint colors and such would be appreciated as well.

From the two catalogs I have access to, the 1957 was in that style (but heritage badge), and the 1960 started the grey/red. A friend has a heritage badged version which is grey/silver colored.

Unless someone else has one with original paint, not sure you will be able to match colors, as the catalogs are black and white.

I figured I’d run into the catalog issue. Truthfully I’m hoping someone on here has a similar box in better condition can help me out. I did find a different 59 AMD box that was a grayish color I’m just unsure if all the boxes from the era would be the same color

Iirc I’ve had a couple like that and they were both that glossy gray they used to use.

Your box does have similar features to mine, the handles are identical, but I do believe it’s older. Then again I was told being a 59 my box shouldn’t have the crown logo so yours could be closer in age just with the proper logo.
