Gents, what would a Craftsman 51871(5.5 inch) vise that has all parts present besides the main nut be worth- what would be a fair price to offer?

I found an intact 51871 for sale that is missing the main nut/ spindle nut. I happen to have an extra spindle nut for a 51871 and want to pick up the vise without this part to restore. What would be a fair price to offer.

I do not have any pics of the vise in question, but I have seen it. It is all there, jaws are in fine shape, etc- just needs a spindle nut.

Thank you for your input.

I paid $45.00 for an early 70's era 3 1/2" in excellent condition and I may have overpaid. But I watch the local auction and absolute junk vises are going for thirty to fifty dollars. I'm not sure there's a standard.

What's the asking price? The would be a starting point. I wouldn't pay more than $50 and that's if it doesn't show any signs of being seriously beat up.

I see on ebay people asking outlandish prices for any vintage Cman or other name brand vise as well. Wonder if anyone actually bites at those prices.

It depends on how ridiculous the price is. If it is for something that can't be found easily at the flea market and there are people who want it badly, there may be a few bites. Otherwise, no one is going to bite at those prices. The cost of shipping makes selling vices on eBay impractical.

Just filter to "sold" listings. Doesn't tell you the price it was best offer accepted though.
