Craftsman Compact Reciprocating Saw (#17175)

Has anyone tried one of these things?

Kmart has a shelf of them for $29.99 and I'm tempted. Reviews seems to say either absolute junk (blade staying secure) or good for the price.

I wouldn't bother, if I were you, I would look on craigslist for a used older usa made Milwaukee sawzall. I got mine with a ton of blades, metal case for $25 at a yard sale, old enough to still be usa made but new enough to have the quick release chuck

Yeah that's what my gut feeling was telling me...put the $30 towards a much better tool.

Those USA Millwaukee Sawzalls last forever too.

Sears used to sell one that looked like this, but it was corded. Great lightweight compact saw. I've used mine for years and it's my go-to saw for quick cuts. I haven't seen it around for quite a while though. I doubt anything powered for 30 bucks is going to be worth the money from SearsMart nowadays.

Yeah, if you don't need one immediately I would hit up craigslist. If you don't mind ones with the chuck that needs a screw, you can get those even cheaper, I meet a guy selling 2 for $15 each but they were kinda ratty.

6A is decent for a compact recip saw but that particular model is somewhat buggy, probably do better with a used Sawzall for the same price.
