Summary:

You guys remember the Craftsman AXS, right? The really flashy tool boxes that nobody bought? From brief in-store hands-on time, I actually thought the drawers were really nice, but the overall flashyness kind of doomed it from the start. A lot of people also complained about the copious amounts of plastic.

ANYWAY, this new powered tool box looks to have a normal top and normal bottom, with the middle being the "powered" part. Normal is of course relative. The boxes are 49" with all drawers but one being half-width. There's also a huge top compartment. Perhaps some of the charging features are in there too?

Personally I'm going to hold off on making a serious judgement. The drawers sound decent, but I'm not sure about the configuration.

I know that Kobalt has one with speakers and even a refrigerator, but has it been selling well enough for a second player to enter the market?

Well it looks better then their previous contraption. Sears has a thing for gimmicky stuff, it's gotten worse since Kmart took over. I think Villa started getting into the gimmick ****. Too bad they just sit down with some ordinary guys and ask them about tool boxes or check out what people talk about here at GJ.

I kinda like the bottom. If it will hold 100 lbs per drawer and total load rating of 2000 lbs, that is better then a griplatch. The middle and top are really stupid and I would not buy those. Am I an old school fuddy duddy? All I want in a tool box is it holds tool. I don't want power anything on a box. A power strip in a hutch is about as for as I go. I don't even like the **** on a epiq. All Sears needs to do is uncheapen the current boxes they have and maybe come out with a 24" deep box and they would fine.

The 28" Contour has 50-lb drawer ratings, and there are no specs available for the 36" boxes.

There's no word about whether these units can be purchased separately, but I hope they can be.
