Hey guys,
So last week while looking at tool boxes at sears I noticed that they had a crazy rebate for tool storage. It says that they will give you 100% of the difference of the regular vs. sale price + 10% more off. Sounds too good to be true right?
I've spent a total of 2 hours in Sears in the last 2 days. I wanted their big unit, the griplatch ball bearing 41" tool box they were advertising for $699. The normal price is $1399. They way I read the rebate (and the Sears guys did too) was that they would give me a gift card for $700 + $70 (as that's 10%). After calls and calls they said it was only on regular priced items. But the rebate clearly says In-store only purchases. Here's the rebate:
"BUY ANY REGULAR PRICE...~ PORTABLE/STATIONARY/CARPENTRY COMPRESSOR OR~ TOOL STORAGE AND RECEIVE AN INSTANT SEARS GIFT CARD FOR 100% OF THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE REGULAR AND THE CURRENT SALE PRICE, PLUS AN ADDITIONAL 10% UP LIFT.OFFER VALID FOR IN-STORE PURCHASES ONLY.OFFER NOT VALID FOR ONLINE TRANSACTIONS AT SEARS.COM OR K-MART; OR OUTLET STORES"
So the manager told me that he could take 35% off of the sale price and sell it to me at that price. So I was able to buy the package deal for $736 (because the $699 was with a sears card discount) and they took 35% off of the $736. It wasn't a bad price for that box so I took it. Came out to 478.93 before taxes.
Tonight I find that the price was adjusted another 15% difference. Grrr......this pisses me off.
My question is even though their ad is wrong & a manager gave me a decent discount considering how much time both them and myself had spent in there trying to get it squared away if I should go in there and say hey look, your site now lists it for $X price and I want my ticket adjusted with everything to reflect that. Basically I would be asking them to give me the new price, adjusted with the 35% discount.
In the end it's a $78 difference from what I paid and what it is now if I got the same discount, assuming they would have given me 35% the following day.
I have 14 days to argue any price discrepancy but I don't know if sears would do so knowing that I already got a 35% discount (they did it more to smooth over the rebate/ad's thing).
I've done this with things I've bought at normal price at places and it's not that big of a deal, but I've never price matched something when I was given a huge discount on the item. Do you think they should do it?
