All this suggests a period between about 1965 and the introduction of model numbers (1975ish?) as the target years where the incremental changes in shank thickness and "A" style took place.

1968. That's one of the few well documented time line items in craftsman tool history.

Thanks to all you sleuths. You guys are top rate historians with engine grease under your finger nails. Now I have to go and find a table big enough to lay out all those Craftsman I have collected dating back to the early 50's and further.
