I have a sears craftsman 41A5483-2C model, era 1996? as this is the age the house was built. The remotes does not shut the door, but will open it. And when you hit the remote to shut the door, the light flashes 10 times at the main unit that has chain gear and motor housing. I replaced the batteries in the remote and reprogrammed and still nothing.
I went to the door/wall mount and ensured it wasnt in vacation mode by pressing the button with the padlock icon on it for 5 seconds.
The door will open with the wall mount and close, as long as I hold the button down.
So, two problems, remote wont close door but will open.
Second, the door will open and close with the door/wall mount unit if I hold it down.
Othewise the failures always have the light flashing 10 times.
I did erase all codes and reprogrammed a few times.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your problem is in your Sensors! Check for alignment, both lights should be on. if that doesn't work start checking the wires. If your garage was pre-wired check splices, If wires are surface mounted, check staples or for chewed or broken wires..Good luck

Thanks. One sensor is green, on. The other isnt. I need to check it for power etc. That one sensor hasnt been lit for a long time, so I am not sure if it is designed to be on all the time.

Your sending eye will always be lit, receiving - will light when it sees the sender.

Probably a quick tweak, also could be a bad connection at the receiver, or operator, but start with aligning photoeyes.

10 flashes is photoeyes on chamberlain products.

Thanks. Will give a quick try tonight when I get home. I need to get guidance on how to make them "see" each other.
