I have one in used condition. It does the job well. 50.00 is a great price, especially since it is the asking price. I would offer 40.00 and go from there.

I think that is a great deal for that model. as far as that particular unit goes, ask to turn it on. Does it run quietly? run it with a bit in the chuck- does the bit wobble around (looks kinda blurry if it does). While the machine isn't running: Does the chuck (teeth, key) appear worn? Grab ahold of the chuck and give it a throttle. does it wiggle?

If you answer yes to any of those questions the DP is likely used to a point that much of the precision has been beat out of it. However that is a probably a good price, even if you part it out (in the classified ads here). The castings like the head, work table, and pulleys should pretty well help you re-coup your cost.

Just my 2 cents- ask around! There's a wealth of knowledge on this site :)

$50 for good running American iron can be a deal. I'm curious about the color, though. This is appears to be a 1950 Dunlap DP.......listed right next to the Craftsman "80" in the 1950 Craftsman catalog. I don't know if they did those in the bronze originally......my point is that if someone went through it and refurbbed it already, that would be a plus.

Also, the motor pulley looks non-stock.......the picture quality in his ad *****. It appears a bit taller than the stock one would. Again, not a deal-breaker, just observations.

Finally, understand that this drill press was equipped with bronze bearings, as opposed to the fully ball-bearing Craftsman unit next to it in the catalog. Lastly, this unit did not come with a depth-stop......these last two reasons would prompt me to pass on this one.

If you need/want a drill press, it's hard to beat an hour drive and $40 or $50. You can always hang on to it and sell if for more than you paid if you decide you don't want it.
