I am new to the forum and I'm a casual woodworker. I have an old craftsman drill press model # 113.213130. It is still in great condition, I bought it newI'm sure in the late 90's. It has started smoking when I'm drilling nothing too big. My question is, does it sound like it could be an easy fix? I do not know how to repair machines and it weighs a ton to try and take it somewhere to get fixed. I hate to. trash it.

Is the smoke coming from the motor? If so, you can find a new motor for that easily.
I believe the smoke is coming from the top, where the belts are. Could it be from the belt not staying tight. For the belt tension lock handle there is only 1 bolt, looks like one is missing, and the one won't tighten. If i pull the belt together, it loosens, tension is holding, motor moves.

Sounds like a slipping belt. Jam a wedge in there for a quick fix until it can be done right.

Thanks for the replies! I'll take a look at it, hopefully it's an easy fix.
Take a look at the belt, too. They do wear out and lose their grip over time.

Where can I buy a replacement belt, everywhere says not available. Part says Belt - "V" 3/8 x 39? Are there standard replacement belts for drill presses?
It's just a standard v belt. Auto parts store, Grainger, farm store etc.
