I'm off to collect a Craftsman Commercial 15.5 drill press, made in about 1972.

Problem is it's a big beast of a thing.

How easy is it to remove the drill assembly from the upright?

Would be lovely to bring home in several more manageable pieces..

Actually, as drill presses go, it's not really a beast. I have a bad back, and could load it myself. Walk it to the back of the truck, swivel the table to the handle side, raise it all the way up and lock it. Tilt it into the back of the truck resting on the front edge of the table, which is swiveled to the side, holding the handles up off the truck bed. Lift the base and slide it into the truck so it's resting on the side of the base and the front of the table and secure. Drive off.

If you want to remove the head, bring a small bottle jack and some penetration oil. Sometimes you need to push on them a bit before they break free. Make sure to out the jack close to the post.
