Craftsman Dump Cart door mod?

So I have this nice older 14 yard Craftsman metal dump cart that I restored and it has the door that swings up as it would on a dump truck instead of open downward like the tailgate on a pickup truck.

I find the flip up dump style door to be less than useful and actually limits me from loading longer items in it.

I may just remove it altogether, but has anyone ever re located one and how did it turn out?
