Craftsman EBAY Craziness

Ok, I get that there is a cult following for Snap on hard handles especially the pink ones. I don't understand it but, I get it. However, it appears that word has gotten out about the old style Craftsman Pro Screwdrivers too. I can't see paying over $80 for a nine piece screwdriver set that sold for $30 when new but, there are a lot of things going on in the world that I don't understand.

Those are great screwdrivers, but who the hell in their right mind would buy those when they could buy snap-on for the same price? I'm not even a big snap-on fan and I think that.

I saw these a couple days ago and they were only at $30.

I have a few in my toolbox, maybe I should post them up and get rich.

I've got the orange version,they were ****.Broke the tips off two in less than 3 mths.Phillips stripped not long after.I think I still have some broken ones somewhere,can't get them warrantied in Canada.

I have a black one that's been used for 10 years straight and is the only screwdriver still usable from that tool purchase...

Ebay is weird. I see SO stuff (screwdriver sets in particular) that sell for more than you can order them right now right off of the SO website at 100% retail. These are the same models that are still currently selling, not some old retired, special edition. And people bid on them

The original black Craftsman Pro screwdrivers are really nice. I have them and they work well. Every time I see them in a yard sale or estate sale I pick them up for my toolbox and they are fairly hard to find. I've always found single screwdrivers, never multiples.

At some point it stops being about the purchace and more about who has a bigger pair (draiing the blood from their brains). It gets crazy sometimes. I had a Stars and stripes helmet Ive had since I was about 14. It was heavy metallic red.while Blue. I bought it from JC Whitney for 12.95 sometime in 1967 two years before Peter Fonda wore one in Easy Rider. Over the years I had painted it about 5 times to match differant motorcycles and retired it around 1973. I sat collecting dust in my closet until one day I almost tossed it out. I decided to remove the paint so I could show it to my wife. The old spray paint came off pretty easy with some brake clean (old cheap spray paint) and it cleaned up pretty good. I was putting some stuff on ebay so I just threw it on there with some good photos with the original reciept from JC whitney (found it under the liner where I put it when I first got it so I could tighten up the helmet a bit) and the damn thing went for 783 dollars. It quit being about the helmet at about 125 from what I saw others going for.

In that bunch of tools I bought a few weeks back (i posted photos) their were 4 of those screwdrivers in the shoebox full of them. They are really comfortable and the blades are really nice. I didn't even know they were Craftsman until I barely made it out on one of them. I'll put them in with my Triangle handle Snap-Ons

They had two versions of those screwdrivers: they started out with the hard plastic handle and then later on switched to a hard rubber handle. They both look very similar from a distance; you can't tell them apart unless you touch them. Myself, I didn't realize that had gone to a hard rubber handle until AFTER they discontinued the whole line.

What a story ...we still have my wife's in that style from about 1974. Probably will not draw that kind of bidding, but now we have to try!

I recently sold a lightly used newer model Craftsman 5 1/2" Vise on eBay for $75.

A brand new one costs $65 from Sears.

Since I paid $10 for it at action, I was pretty happy when the eBay bidding hit $50.
When it got to $60, I LOL'd.
When it got to $70 I almost cried.
By the time it hit $75 I was shouting at my computer like a crazy person... "Don't you idiots know those are $65 BRAND NEW!!"

I buy stuff from ebay. Not very often though. I think I have like 38 transactions in 7 or so years. I usually stick to things that are about to end and under a buck, or something I don't feel like searching for in a store.

People get caught up in the thrill of the auction. I've seen it on ebay, and at real auctions. I look at ebay, but don't buy too much, and when i do, I set my max price & stick to it. I know what the tools are worth new, and set my value accordingly.
