Alright guys, I’m stumped. Working on a 115.19240 3/4HP 3450RPM Craftsman Motor from the early 60’s. Motor worked fine, then here and there, before I got the complete hum no mater what. Took it apart, cleaned every thing that I could, and put a new capacitor in it. Same thing, just hums, loudly now.

So, A, I do have the switch to get correctly, right? Copper contact sits on the top of the black piece?

B, that should be a bearing there, right? Completely stiff and not sure if it presses into the motor or out of the motor.

C, any other ideas? Didn’t see anything burnt anywhere on here, so I’m sure it’s still good.

Shockingly, it’s an oil bath set up. Didn’t think they would run with this design into the 60’s, thought it would of been sealed. Which weight oil should I use here?

Got it working, just had to be oiled up. Still think it’s odd that this didn’t come with sealed bearings.

What weight did you end up using? I think its supposed to be 20 weight, but not sure.

Over summer when I picked up a Craftsman / Parks 18" band saw with a noisy bearing, I made a 75/25 mix of 20 weight air tool oil and lucas oil stabilizer. Quieted down the band saw, and worked on this motor as well.
