I was just in Sears and saw their 3/8" and 1/2" electronic torque wrenches on sale for ~$99 (I don't remember the exact price). List prices are $219 and $229. I decided to pass as the online feedback is poor, but in case anyone is interested...

It looks like this is an in-store only, so YMMV:

They are the same as the Matco and Gearwrench ones. I wouldn't take that feed back serious. I have both my 3/8"for head did start slipping but I just picked up a 3/8"for stubby swapped the head and warrantied the stubby at advanced.

These are not reliable at all. I had the 1/2" that I had to warranty and had the same issues with the second one. The reviews are pretty accurate.

When working, they are convenient, but then will die for no reason and will be a nice paperweight. I was able to get my money back after the second failure, but only after I had to go up the ranks.

Craftsman or Gearwrench labeled? What was the problem you had?

I picked up the half inch one here in ohio for 85 dollars + tax. Says "Made in the usa" with "global" parts. It is the same in build and quality as by cousins matco. Good deal, im just a home wrencher so Im sure it will meet my needs and If not I always have my other 5 torque wrenches.

Btw, They were full priced (over 200) at a neighboring sears so this deal isnt going on in every store.

So, I changed my mind and bought the 3/8" wrench. It was $93. I already have a decent 1/2" wrench, but this will replace my cheap 3/8" clicker. I'm planning an engine build and intended to buy a nicer one anyways. If it doesn't last, then I can live with that at this price.

When I got home, I noticed that there is a large o-ring near the head which seals the gap between the head and the neck. It was cracked and looked like it was close to snapping. Also, the calibration report is dated 2007. The price tag was marked 'sale' not clearance, so I'm wondering if Sears is dumping old inventory of these.

I could just replace the o-ring, but I may take it back and try to swap it for one that appears newer.
