Personally, I wouldn't give a darn what the guy uses so as long as he gets the job done. If he is able to remove a crank pulley bolt with a fork, more power to him. There are equally as many idiots out there with Snap-On tools that can't turn a wrench for ****, but hey, they have nice tool boxes!:bounce:

You my friend understand. But just to add, a crank pulley with a fork? Please get real, that's child's play. Make it a plastic fork, then I'll be impressed.:bounce:

I get printed and email receipts with every purchase I make at Sears.

And as long as that system still exists, you're in great shape. If they change systems, ect...it's gone. Forgot what company did this a few years ago, but all their electronic files regarding purchases...gone. You're on your own for archival purposes.

I know Ridgid's warranty/service contract company did that one. My dad got bit by it pretty hard. They lost all their files of registrations, so if you didn't have yours, sorry 'bout your luck.

With the Sears ereceipt, it stays in your email account. As long as you don't delete it they can change their system all they want. They just ask for the sales order number, return code, and purchase date. Just did this yesterday to get some money back on an item I purchased that went on sale this week.

If you get the Pittsburgh Pro versions, or any bargain version, look for the chrome moly ones, not the chrome vanadium.

These were on their third bolt. When they shattered, it presented a danger to my face and jugular because of the space I was working in and the angle of the gun.

Wow, what impact were you using? Glad no one was hurt.

Well, I WAS going to suggest get the Harbor Freight ones because at least they are warrantied.

BTW, on their website, all of the 1/2" drive SAE deep impact sockets are chrome vanadium.

Same here.

Ah, you don't see the glory of the plan. Evolv requires a receipt for warranty...Craftsman does not. If you can get somebody to buy Evolv since they are just slightly cheaper than the Craftsman brand...no more warranty. In 5 years, who's finding their receipt for a impact socket?

*technology will haunt them on this eventually. I am scanning in all my tool receipts lately. If the IRS will take scanned copies, then a tool store certainly better.

I know exactly where mine are..

As noted previously, HF has multiple levels of impact sockets. Bull bought one of the cheaper sets made out of cr-v.

The better HF impacts, like this set, are made of cro-mo, which is a better material for impacts.

I was using their Earthquake. I bought this stuff specifically to do my dad's ABS sensors, which require removing the caliper bracket bolts at 221 ft. lbs and factory thread lock.

These sockets got the two on the PS off, then sharted their way to failure on the first bolt on the DS.

Agreed, I was shocked to see radrush say he'd ditch if the mechanic was newer and didn't blow 10 grand on a snappy box and all snappy tools.

I might be wrong but I believe that the evolv sockets have a limited warranty. The HF pros as well as their regular impacts are lifetime. I have their sae impact socket set in deep. I use the 7/8 all the time for removing lugnuts on the busses. Have been great!

I think the idea is that you don't bother trying to warranty them. Lot's of warranties are like this (especially mail in for off brands with little retail presencelike performance tool) so they're basically one and done...or the cost of mailing is more than the cost you paid.:bounce: However, in some cases this doesn't mean they are complete ****. With the rebranded stuff it's usually the opposite.

I probably wouldn't warranty these sockets but I don't really break anything. If I'm having issues I go right to the heat + penetrating oil instead of pushing the limits of the tool.

OK guys thanks for all the replies. Went back to HF and picked up the shallow SAE set of Pro's and a 10" extension (the only one that was Cr-Mo not Cr-V) they were out of the SAE deep Pro set so I'm bumming there, but the manager says they should have some Thursday and they'll still be on sale until the end of the month so if I don't find a deal on some real "pro" tools before then I'll stop back.

Now if I could just get the Snap-On guy to stop by so I could warranty my swivel, I'd be reasonably good...

The Pittsburgh sockets are stamped, made in Taiwan. The Pittsburgh Pro sockets are laser etched, also made in Taiwan. With the current sales, the Pros are only about $3 more a set than the regular Pittsburgh, but is a slightly smaller set. I'm leaning toward the regular Pittsburgh because of the stamped IDs, are the Pros a better alloy though?
The newest Pros are laser etched. The gen prior were stamped. Both Taiwan, both good. I own both in different sizes.

The non pros are ok. I have a 3/8" metric (Pros are only 1/2" seems like) that I used just yesterday with my M12 Fuel. Took care of everything I needed at the junk yard except one frame bolt because my set had no 18mm and Audi is stupid.

The hex & allen impact sockets (all one piece) labeled Pro are great also. The impact extensions labeled pro are pretty good too. I think they're all worth the money over Sunex (just for warranty/convenience) or any other locally available brand outside of a truck.

they'll still be on sale until the end of the month so if I don't find a deal on some real "pro" tools before then I'll stop back.
They will take the 25% coupon on top of the sale. Plus they're basically always on sale anyway.

I didn't read all the comments so forgive me if I repeat, but I'd either have the receipt scanned or a digital copy sent to you. I had a bunch of Sears receipts and they're all pretty much faded to where they cannot be read. Maybe Sears is using disappearing ink, now, too? :D Hahaha.

I don't like having to keep packages or receipts for warranty claims. I understand it but I don't like it.

That being said, I don't know anything about the Evolve product line.

Ive got a mix of Evolv, HF-PP, Tekton, Craftsman USA, Masterforce USA, and Snap-On. Ive got a full set of SAE and Metric, shallow and deep, 3/8-1 1/4, 10-36mm. I might have $100 invested in impacts. I use them with a 3/4-1/2 impact adapter on a CP 3/4 drive gun all the time, Ive never broken any. I cant really tell the difference with any of them either, they all look the same in the drawer and they all get the job done. I do hope to never have one break in front of my face like what was posted, glad you are ok.
