Craftsman Extensions

It's really annoying that they are not knurled... I've searched but have not found a remedy for this. Has anyone tried knurling them or what do you guys do to help when your hands are greasy?

My uncle used to knurl all of his extensions years ago when no one made them like that. Find a lathe and knurling tool or just go buy some

I haven't tried to knurl any of mine as I really don't mind the smooth finish. I'm pretty sure if they were knurled it would mess up the chrome and become a spot for rust to appear pretty quick.

If anyone wants to send me an extension I would be happy to chuck it up and knurl it as an experiment. Honestly though if you want the knurling you'd be best off just getting some SK or other extensions.

I don't mind having smooth extensions. Someone does make a hand-held knurling tool but, I forget where I saw it.

For the 1/4" drive extensions, I take the rubber finger grips off of giveaway pens, and I slip them on the extension and slide them up to the female end.

you could try some rubber tubing for the 3/8 drive and larger.
I once took a rubber grip of a kitchen spatula handle and put it on an SK ratchet handle.

One of the reasons I started buying Snap-On is the knurling on the ones we use at work made me wish my Craftsman had it.

You could always use some grip-tape. I have also seen some rubber "paint" that may work if you put a stripe around it. Knurling a chrome socket would be a bad idea.

I guess I never noticed. I've done all kinds of work with my Craftsman extensions for 40 years and had no problems.
When my hands get really greasy, I've been known to wipe them off.

The best knurled extensions are made by MAC. Why? Because Mac is the only company to put the knurling where you actually use it, around the female square drive part of the extension.

I have Northern Tool Extensions. The kit came with all sizes. I love them! They are also locking or wobble.

+1 on Northern extension set. most of the stuff i buy from Northern is good and the price is better.

Knurling; is one of things.... you don't know you miss it if you don't have it; as they say, "ignorance is bliss"! I had some Snap-On extensions warranted; the new ones had knurling and I instantly appreciated the feature.... then there are all the vintage Snap-On and other brands I have that don't have it on them! You can never win! There is always something newer, better and you don't have it!

I wonder if you could dip the end in some PlastiDip and then trim the excess off. Make sure you go down to the flat part so it has a better chance of staying where you want it.
