The model numbers are the same, anyone know for sure if the craftsman is a rebranded Nicholson?

Interesting that they are both part #22040HNN. However looking at the picture and description of each set indicates they are different.

nicholson is now off shore, making their product in a number of central and south american countries.
Cripe still has nos USA nicholson, at decent prices.
repurpose some driver handles, you'll have a nice addition to the collection.

I did notice the pictures weren't of the same set, but seems a lot of stuff just uses file photos.

The number being the same is what made me ask

Considering Nicholson is not made in USA any more, I wouldn't waste my money if they were rebranded. Look for some NOS files or look into something like Bahco or a European brand. We need a good US manufacturer of files to re-establish themselves here.

I believe the Craftaman files aren't under their lifetime warranty. I could be wrong though, just off the top of my head.

The way people treat Craftsman tools, it wouldn't even come as a shock what people try to warranty there I bet. Just making sure the obvious was mentioned in the thread.

I think Enderes is running again, I always liked their punches.

Craftsman has gems after all, I'm sure Sears will resurrect themselves somehow.

The Craftsman files are a mix of made in Mexico, Brazil, and Columbia. For what it's worth, the Snap On files are made in Portugal and Brazil. I think they're made by Nicholson. The handles on both sets share some similarities as well, indicating the same manufacturer. The quality is fine by me.

I have some craftsman files. Older ones. Have the WF type handle on them. Definitely not the greatest files. But I did have one snap in half one day. Got caught on something in my toolbox and snapped.

Sears would warranty it no problem. But of corse as usual they wanted to warranty the whole set instead of just the single file. I wasn't going to make a second trip over it. So I haggled them down on a new set. Got a major discount. But it was on this newer style. I can't say anything about quality cuz I haven't used it yet.

I know the older style I had were all made in China. The new set are all made in different countries.

You know that sounds right but I didn't know they produced or sourced certain files from Brazil. That and the handle similarities made me think Nicholson. The Snap ins are definitely better cut files.
