I tried to exchange a screwdriver and a 1/2" drive 3/4 socket at Ace and Lowes, they said no. Part # on your tool is too old. Craftsman upgraded their part numbers when bought by Stanley so your old tools are no good for warranty anymore. Contacted Craftsman customer service and that is the answer I was given. If your # on the tool doesn't match what is in the store, no deal!!
Craftsman guarantee: No longer any good.

This is from the Craftsman.com website, so make of it what you will. Understand that SBD/Craftsman really has no control over the retailers who sell their products. I can understand why Ace or Lowe's don't want to become warranty centers for old $2 screwdrivers that have been abused. Contact the SBD/Craftsman customer service instead.

Before this post goes to hell in a hand basket, you walk the broken tool in and in a nice voice you show them the exact replacement/or as close as possible and ask for an exchange, it has worked for me for a few broken tools not many so far. The only exception was a broken wire nipper, (I did post that one here on the GJ). The nice fellow at the Ace store said on my last visit, if we have it no problems.

I also feel that it would be just plain dumb on SBD to piss off customers for a few old broken tools; to say hit the road jack, old and out of date will not cut it; better for them to make you happy so you will come back and keep buying their new Chinese tools.
