At least my Craftsman breaker bar (1/2") has a hanging hole in the handle--I wonder if there are any pictures of the bars from different vintages-did,say, =V= look different than VV

You seem to know an awful lot about tools to go out and get "duped" into buying some inferior Craftsman junk. If you know so much about how the tool companies operate, then you'd know that Craftsman has been going downhill for years now. What's with all the feigned surprise?Actually, SK makes their own tools at their own facility. They were bought by Ideal Industries after that company from France screwed them up.
