Kind of late for the deal, but figured I would toss my 2 cents in.

JUNK.

Bet my 115 lb wife could break it. The floor model at my local Sears usually is not working, hydraulic wise. It is usually in the lowest position and I cannot even get it to raise, let alone attempt to make it stay in place.

IMO, shop around for something more industrial grade.

Edit - Looks like Sears possibly did some purging of the customer reviews a year ago. Most of the reviews since then are negative while most of the reviews prior to 9/07 are very positive.

Cheesy way to do business.

I would try to find a used old school heavy duty one to use in the shop; check your local "used office furniture" warehouse.... they usually have those 50s-70s vintage ones that are built like a tank and weigh a ton! The military/gov't/large corporations bought them back in the day by the truckload (drafting table era); you can probably find a cheap used one and they will last forever! :)

Good idea, billy. My neighborhood office furniture supply store usually doesn't have what I am looking for in the way of used stuff, but maybe it is time to stop back in & see what they have in the way of old stools.

Also, I wonder what type of business handles old bar/tavern equipment. If I could find that out, I would imagine that there would be some used, heavy duty bar stools available. Probably well "seasoned" though.

Another suggestion is garage sales. Quite often people will be selling old kitchen & bar stools real cheap.

As for good industrial stools, I'll see what we use at work and post a link here later in the week.
