Hi all,

About 7 years ago I bought a Craftsman 1/2" air impact wrench. I got it home and quickly realized that my air compressor didn't have enough capacity to run it, so into the cabinet it went.

And so it sat until last week. I finally have a big enough air compressor to run it, I was doing some auto repair work that required an impact wrench so I hooked it up and.... bypass. Every time I pull the trigger the air just goes right through to the exhaust without turning the tool. It turned under power a few times (with very little "impact") but now it just bypasses. My guess is that one of the vanes is stuck? I'm thinking of disassembling it (which requires driving a roll pin out to remove the selector knob and pulling some allen head screws), is that the right thing to do? Any ideas?

oil it.

get some air tool oil, put a few drops in the bottom of it. trigger it a few times to get it in the system. turn the anvil by hand a few times, and keep working the trigger, and turning the anvil. after you do this, and it still doesn't go. drop some more oil into it, pull the trigger, and give it a few good smacks on the table while pulling the trigger to knock the vanes loose.

if this doesn't work, then yes, tear it apart. but if it just sat for a try, try oiling/turning/smacking to get it to turn oil and oil up good.
