Hello I see summit racing still advertises the craftsman industrial impact socket as made in USA. Does anyone know how true this is? They have the 55 piece set for under $300 its a well rounded set some 1/4,3/8 and 1/2 drive sockets.

I've never seen anything "Craftsman Industrial" that wasn't made in USA. I was under the impression that they bumped the "old" USA line to "Craftsman Industrial", raised the price, and tossed the Chinese Craftsman tools into Kmart and Sears.

I once bought two roundhead ratchets from Sears online (didn't mean to buy two, don't ask). Got them in the mail, and they were absolutely identical in every way, including COO. One just had "Industrial" stamped on it and one did not.

My cman impacts are US made and have lasted quite well. Some are just no starting to wear heavily.

So when you break one you get a China replacement! I would not buy that set at that price....I'd be running away from them

$300? There's a lot of sockets there you may never use. Do you really have or need a 1/4" impact gun? Do you really need deep SAE in 3/8" drive? What are you working on that requires these sockets. Don't say cars.

I think you'd be better served with a decent set of 1/2", maybe 3/8" universals if you have a 3/8" gun. You could pick up used tool truck impacts that would serve you better for less money.

Note: My profile pic shows my ancient Craftsman "AIR" impacts that I recently refinished. Note the lack of any real corner relief. These were not great sockets when I bought them 25 years ago. Hopefully, the new Craftsman industrials have ripped off Snap on's inner profiles (like everybody else).

The new Craftsmans are great and do have the off corner engagement. They also should have laser etching and stamping on each socket. That looks like a nice set that would be a good buy. A good reason to have an extensive set of impacts is to use them as backup if you split one of your chrome sockets and need to continue working immediately.

Also, 1/4" impacts are great to have and use regularly. Almost any 14mm and less fastener can be used with the 1/4" impact. This tool is more for speed than needing a powerful impact to break the fastener loose.

Actually, he'll get a US replacement as Cman Industrial is still made in the US. :)

Yes they are but for how long. And its not an easy go to Sears to exchange. I think they are cr. V. And not cr. Mo.

Don't get me wrong I have old USA craftsman impact sockets. But I'm not sure I'd go out and buy a lot of them if I was looking to buy impact sockets.

The are "high alloy steel".
Many of us have them or the Cman versions and they've held up for years...so at that point it really doesn't matter if it's Cr-V or Cr-Mo or neither of those.

They will be made in the US indefinitely, as Apex caters to the gov't w/ the industrial line. Also, warranty work consists of calling Apex and giving them your address. A day or two later you get a new one.

I didn't realize the government bought craftsman tools? Armstrong yes but he IS buying craftsman industrial. I didn't think they would drop the professional line and hey did. I wouldn't put faith in Sears to say the idustrail line will be here indefinitely.

I have the 3/8 deep and regular impact sockets being delivered tomorrow. They are Craftsman Industrial and should be USA. I'll verify tomorrow.

Armstrong = Cman Industrial in many cases.
Industrial was launched to cater the gov't/military.

OK, yes its a large set I'm a pipe fitter in a fab shop, I was going to use 1/4 and 1/2 at work and keep the 3/8 home for cars! I wasn't aware that some sears will not replace the industrial line. I'll have to check with my local store. I still like american made craftsman I don't think u can beat the value. S-K and others are more $$ and a pain to warranty/replace.

SK is easy, Ideal really improved the warranty process.
