Craftsman King Seeley Drill Press Color

I recently acquired an early 50's vintage Craftsman 100 bench top drill press. I'm debating whether or not to do a restoration. One question I have is has anyone found a readily available paint that closely matches the original color of the King Seeley made units? I really like the look of these machines and would like to get as close of a match as possible.

Also, any tips on locating parts for the motor? Bearings, capacitor, etc? I'm currently pulling the motor apart to see why it won't start. I suspect it's just dirty and the centrifugal switch is not making contact. PO was a woodworker so I imagine the motor is loaded with sawdust.

I don't have any pics at the moment but will try to post some tomorrow.

Go look at franklee's DP thread (http://garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=227480). Take the time to read it. Most of the information you seek is in there.

I found one of these DPs in rough condition, but running.

Tore it all down and had the major parts powdercoated in gloss black. Replaced all the bearings.

The motor was a different story. I took it to an old motor shop and they took it apart only to find that it was just a question of time before it failed completely. So that was a bust ... but I did find a NOS motor on eBay for $75 local to me, no shipping; pickup only. Grabbed that and I'm good to go.

Now I'm keeping an eye out for a slo-speed pulley and another work table; so I can have a handy 'tool shelf' close by.

Good luck!
