So short version old head was the type without the bump feed.took the precut lengths and you feed them through.but after years of use it wore down past the holes and is no longer usable.my uncle gave me one of those 3 blade universal heads for free but its meant for a threaded shaft.this shaft is smooth and the original headwas held on by a washer that gripped the shaft.the old washer is not reusable.so my question is am i able to put a die on this shaft and thread it so i can put a nut onand use this head?or do i just go buy the factory replacement head.thanks

Just a guess. You are talking about sharp blades spinning near your feet and ankles. Question is, do you feel lucky? Buy what belongs there. It is an engineered system. From my living room I cannot tell what grade, hardness or style of shaft you have. Modifying just to use a free part does not seem the best choice. Good luck.
