The only other way you might get it unlocked is to fish the rod up where you can grab it with a pair of neednose visegrips through the hole and turn it by hand to lift the locking bar. Then you'll need to pull all the drawers out enough to avoid the lock bar when it drops again.

OK, that makes sense. But my vice-grips are "unavailable" now. haha. I'll figure something out.

BTW Sears customer service is USELESS!

your model# is 706.407630, there is a parts diagram on the searsdirect site, it looks like the rod is horizontal running from front to back and turns on the bracket.

if the lock is out, you can slip a magnet in there and fish the rod out, then maybe make a longer rod that you can slip in with a pair of vice grips n the end to turn the bracket and unlock.

this is all hypothetical, as their parts diagram *****...

thanks, that helps. I was able to line the rod back up using a coat hanger and a piece of flat stock. Then I re-inserted the cylinder and was able to open it. It is a very flimsy design. There is a clip that holds the lock to the box. I re-attached it, but won't be locking it very often.
