Hello,

Does anyone have a part number and date for this box? I think "Dunlap" made these for Craftsman. I'm not sure. I have seen others that are similar boxes, but they did not have the slide trays. Looks like it's from the late 1950's.

With that style latch, it was offered in the catalogs from 1949 to 1952.

Dunlap, like Craftsman, was a store brand, not an OEM. Craftsman merchandise was warrantied, Dunlap was not. I'm not sure who made those boxes for Sears.

This is from 49. It's the best image of that box from the catalogs.

The dome boxes, lunch boxes, long handles, whatever somebody chooses to call them, ran from 46 to 57 with several different variants. There was a cantilever box like yours that ran in 47 and 48 but it had a different latch. The cantilever was gone after 52 but the long handles with lift out trays lasted till 57.

Yours is in excellent condition, congrats! Cantilevers are great in that you can pack a lot into them. The problem with them is that you can pack a lot of stuff into them and a lot of people did, wrecking the slides for the trays.

Thanks. When I was at the Chevy dealer in'73, the Old man there told me to keep my drawer slides working with wax. It works, I still do it today on my '77 10 drawer chest. When I get the box cleaned up some more, I'll post some better pictures.
