My idea is that this thread be for posting craftsman tools that are still made here in USA. Post pic and part number if possible. Purchased a week before Christmas. Prybar set. 11e55a47fcad96930a18f5bb10c4069c.jpg I was surprised to see made in USA on it. I'm sure other tools even if few and far between, are still made here. Please add to this thread.

I recently bought some large USA made screwdrivers. I also bought a set of chisels/punches and alignment tools made in the USA. I have a set of the pry bars too! I browsed the aisle at the local store recently and found quite a few tools still made in the USA.

Off topic: Those Craftsman pry bars might as well be made in China.

On topic: Craftsman 48 pc. SAE & Metric Thread Restorer Kit

They say Stanley Black & Decker purchased the Craftsman tools brand from Sears. Rumor has it they will be adding jobs in the USA. Time will tell how many Craftsman tools will be made in the USA again.

They're made by Wilde, in the USA.

Yes, you are correct.

Why do you say that?

I own the new ones (with the striking caps) and several sets of the older ones (without the striking caps). There is a definite decrease in the quality of the new pry bars. Don't get me wrong... I am glad to see that they are still made in the USA by Wilde. I just find the decrease in quality to be disappointing (though not at all surprising).

Like I said
Hammers & handles, screwdrivers, awls, flat & crowbars, punch and chisels, most all pliers & cutters, adjustable wrenches (superb btw), 6 point ratchet wrenches, bolt out extractors, thread restore kit, some hook and pick sets, snap ring pliers and some stores still have USA pipe wrenches and wood chisels in stock. Nearly all those tools are rebranded and sold on trucks. That's really not a bad selection and to be honest, there are a lot of decent Chinese/Taiwan made tools there as well. I have a small number of Chinese made Craftsman sockets and extensions, but haven't broken one yet. The 36t ratchets, yes, but the sockets are on par with any other big box store. I'll say this right now, the 84t low profile ratchet is a pretty sweet little tool. It has the exact same ratchet mechanism as the Armstrong/Matco Maxx88, except with quick release and minus 4 teeth. I've been very impressed with it.

Oh, then there's this about Craftsman Indistrial http://c.shld.net/rpx/newars/crafts...strial/images/201506-CI-Brand-Flyer-FINAL.pdf

Was in my local Sears the other day, looking for some kitchen stuff in the boxing day sales. Went over to the tool section, there is probably 75% more non-tool stuff in the big Craftsman section of the store than there is actual tools. Couldn't spot one made in USA thing.

Which reminds me, I need to try and grab one of those thread restorer sets if I can find one, before they go extinct.

I also have a 50$ gift card from Sears that I better hurry up and use too.

They should be worth the low asking price.. $18.72 for a set of three.. Average cost of $6.24 each.. Definitely a usable tool; but I wouldn't expect a top quality product at that homeowner pricing. I am game for that.

I would estimate that 70% of my hand tools are pre 1990 C-Man.

Assuming that the Craftsman 6 in 1 screwdrivers are still made in the USA. I bought mine around a couple of years ago to replace an older one that I misplaced, which I later found. The quality is outstanding. I use it all the time. Especially handy for HVAC & electrical work.

I went to purchase them at that price and I apparently had $9 of "Surprise Points" so I would say I got a pretty solid deal at $10 after tax for a set of these pry bars! I'm just curious why someone thinks they are awful . . . to me you would have to use them on a job that's meant for something larger than what is provided.

FYI, as someone said the regular pry bars are made by Wilde. The Professional pry bars are made by Mayhew (also USA).

They aren't wrecking bars, use common sense. Compare the thickness of those to like a 36" demo bar you get at the big box store... Different tools for different uses.

Most of the regular screwdrivers are USA made (at least in my store). I believe the adjustable wrenches are still USA. The offset box-end wrench sets are USA.

If you check the tool-truck equivalents thread there's a craftsman section. I think it also lists the OEM of each tool too.

I got the same set right before Christmas. It was on sale for around $25 or so. I couldn't resist.

If I didn't already have adjustable wrenches, I would get Craftsman. They are still USA and very well made, which cannot be said about their other USA offerings (screwdriver for example is garbage imo). Pry bar is great quality. I have the older none-strike cap and new Professional version with soft grip and strike cap, both are excellent. My local Sears no longer carries any USA chisels. All China now.

Someone in another thread showed a picture of the Craftsman Cobras (made by Knipex in Germany) on sale. Great stuff.

well it's like when Olies had those pry pars cheap.
I got about 4 or so.
Never a problem.
But one guy was complaining about them, they're junk, and this and that.
Meanwhile, he was using them for a wreaking bar.

guys this is a good idea for a thred -- I think like the truck equivalents thread its best to keep this clean and don't debate or disparage products. It just clutters of the information and makes it hard to use. Maybe link to a discussion/debate thread to accompany this one? And then just have the main thread be parts, part numbers, and pictures.

To add something useful, the cman mini pick sets are ullman rebrands and still USA last I looked.

Also, another anti-clutter shortcut:

To avoid re-printing pictures previously posted, delete from the quoted text parts between
when you quote a previous poster.

This will quote the revelant text and leave out the images.

Nope, not anymore. Made in China

Well, if anyone wants some USA made offset box-end wrench sets my local Hometown store has a bunch of them! I'll buy and ship and only charge what my cost is. I *think* he had both SAE & Metric, he will also price-match with website no-fuss if online is cheaper.

Also about the pics. I bought the 4-pc pick set with clear handles 41513, they say "Assembled in USA of Imported & Domestic Components"

I disagree. I have two CM USA made screwdrivers sets. One from mid 90's and one from last year. I use them a lot. I don't abuse them by trying to use them as pry bars. Work great for me.

Yeah, I never had a problem with the acetate handle drivers, nor with the dual-material Pro screwdrivers. A lot of people slag off Western Forge or Pratt-Read drivers, but they've always worked for me (and that includes newer production stuffs).

Craftsman Hose Clamp Pliers (Pinch-off)

spin_prod_208055801

CONFIRMED these are USA by MILBAR - As resold by truck brands.

[from a review] Each of the pliers came individually wrapped in their own "zip lock" bag, in a box from "Stride tool/ Milbar" in Ohio. I did a bit of digging, and they appear to be manufactured by Imperial tools, a Stride tool brand: http://imperial-tools.com/content/hose-tools

A couple years ago when I started working industrial maintenance in the summers I was able to source a full set of usa tools from craftsman. I got a nos usa mechanics tool set, screwdrivers, punches, chisels, pliers, hammers, pry bars, picks, and nut drivers. I was able to get that whole setup pretty cheap I added more usa larger wrenches up to 1 1/4 and 24 mm. For that I'll always be thankful got a full set of working tools that didn't put me into debt. Out of what's still available:
I personally like the WF screwdrivers.
The adjustable wrenches and pliers are great in my opinion.
The hammers are rebranded Vaughan and I like them a lot.
No experience with the new pry bars.

Just at the local ace and they still have a 104 piece set for sockets/ ratchets made in the US, think they had a larger US set as well.

The pinless impact universal joints are pricey but top quality and still made in the USA. So are the pinless sockets if you can find them online, I think they're discontinued now.

Plenty of saw blades are still USA made (or there is still NOS). Quite a bit of sandpaper and other accessories in that area are as well.

Small portable toolboxes are made in Israel by Keeter and good quality, and the quick-grip bar clamps are made in Slovakia by Wolfcraft and also top-notch.

Everybody loves to bash Sears/Craftsman, but they still offer a lot of quality American-made tools.

Craftsman 10 pc. Impact Grade Bolt-Out™ Damaged Bolt/Nut Remover

Apparently TURBO socket OEM...very high quality and USA...FWIW also relabeled by SK and truck brands at much higher cost

(also, these are not IRWIN relabels)

Yes, I think its worthwhile to give credit where it is due. There is alot of NOS and specialty tools CMAN sells that are worth tracking down.

Where did the word awful come from? Not Me,

They are a usable tool, and I am game for that.. Those pry bars were made to sell for a low price. They are a good buy at that price.. I would buy them at that price, and have tried, but they were not available in My area. For that price, they may not be the best of quality, but they are certainly a bargain...

I hope I have clarified any misunderstandings of what I said. ;)
