I love my wire-wheel equipped Block Grinder but sometimes 3450 rpm is just a little too much... with a 6" wheel the surface speed of the wheel is about 60mph (assuming I did the math right).

I found this nifty Craftsman 1/2" mandrel. Popped some new bearings in it and attached it to my worm-gear reducer... now we're running about 120rpm which has a surface speed much closer to wire brushing by hand, just without the work!

I agree. Nice job. I put little 1/4" shanked wire wheels in the drill press, at 500 rpm. The slow speed is much more gentle on the surface. I have also put the same wheels in the flex shaft and stuck it in the lathe chuck. I would like a slow stationary wheel like yours. Thanks for sharing. That's inspiring.
