Hi Everyone

What is the difference between Craftsman and Craftsman/MD?

I see some interesting products on Sears' website that is only available through Sears Canada. (some craftsman professional screwdrivers, pliers, etc.) Then While browsing through sears canada website I see some tool boxes like this..

http://www.sears.ca/product/craftsman-md-56-10-drawer-cabinet-
blue/609-33574-33574

Be nice to know if any of these would ever be available in the US.

And what is Craftsman/MD anyways?

Thanks in advance for your time and information.

Thanks.

(newbie...)

Just seems like Sears Canada offers different craftsman items than the US does and I wasn't sure if we can get them in the US anytime soon.

I grew up with mostly Craftsman tools and I am disappointed that the quality of some Cman and Cman pro products (not to mention a lot of other sears products) have diminished over the years. Still like some of their products but the gap seems much wider between SO and Cman Pro now than it did 20 years ago...

Drove me nuts for EVER until some good soul here pointed out that MD was indeed "une marque deposee" or a "registered trademark" for to the rest of the English speaking world.

There apparently isn't a special French character to match the little "R in a circle" we know as a Registered Trademark.

THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (I would have never figured that one out!)

Interesting how they have different "Professional" looking hand tools and tool boxes marked as Craftsman and Craftsman Professional

Thanks for the information and the links!

Steen27: No problem. The reason that they have different boxes and hand tools in Canada (i'm guessing) is because Sears does not, to my knowledge, actually own factories or anything like that. What they do is buy tools from other manufacturers (like Danaher, Western Forge, Lisle Hand Tools, Waterloo Toolboxes, the now-dead SK, etc.), stamp "Craftsman" on them and resell them.

The reason they are different in Canada, I'm guessing, is that they can get better deals on certain tools in Canada vs. United States. For example, those International boxes that they badge as "Craftsman" are from Spg. International, a Canadian-based company. I bet they get a good deal on them because of the Canada thing.
