Today I went to my local Sears Appliance and Hardware Center to buy a middle box for myself. I bought their 3 drawer box #37710. List price on the display model was $161.99. At the checkout the salesman that helped me said " You got a good deal on this. On sale for $64.99." Just less than $70.00 with tax. Great. Sometimes you get lucky. CJDave.

Sounds like you got a good deal. You should post some pictures of it.

My mid box cost more than you paid when I purchased it new. I am okay with what I paid though.

I originally was using a phone to read this thread, but now a computer. I now see that it is the dark blue. I thought it was black, like my tool boxes. The "Yamaha-ish" blue would not go well with my Kawasaki lime green garage. :)

I sure wish they still had the ones from 5 years ago:

red
black
stainless steel
yellow
forest green
dark blue
orange

Drink, I was actually looking for a 4 drawer box but availability was a problem. Here are 2 pics as it sets between 2 MBCentury boxes from 1965.

I like your blue boxes drink. Like in the other thread. I wanted one when I saw them in a catalog/brochure that came with my combo I bought at our local Sears before they left town. They only had the red with black drawers and 'offered' an all red piece which I tried to buy, but didnt have it in stock-so I took the red/black home- then looked at the sheets and saw the midnight blue and really liked it.

Someone on the local craigslist has a midnight blue Quiet Glide 3-piece combo set.

I saw an older catalog since my previous post.

Red with red drawers, red with black drawers and grey were offered.

Those are sweet lookin century boxes I have heard of century only the second set I have seen. Were they made by beach for someone else like the looks of them. And they seem to be in good shape too,

That Blue stack you are lookin at on craigslist is the exact same set I have in my garage. Good set I have had mine for years no complaints.

I got the 2 drawer red/black intermediate box new at Sears for $30 on clearance a couple months back. Lady helping me said the same thing, "you got lucky with this one". I had purchased a 1/4" Evolve set on line when it was on sale and just happened to do in store pick up since I was driving by the next day. There are some deals, you just gotta be the first one there when they drop.

They are in very nice but not perfect shape, Century was apparently the brand name used by Metal Box and Cabinet Co. of Chicago. They seem to also have made tool boxes branded for Mac, Snap-on and Proto at different times in years past. They are well made and will probably outlive me. My neighbor bought them new in the cardboard boxes from the Mac tool truck in 1965 for $46 and $66 respectfully. I bought them from in about 1979. CJDave.

I really need to buy a new bottom Craftsman box. I have the 5 drawer Quiet Glide and really could use the 4 drawer ball bearing model. The drawer with my impacts stuff is difficult to open and close and the drawer with my drill motors, bits, grinders, hole saw, etc is really not deep enough.

Never enough room for very long. We always seem to have more tools than storage for them. CJDave.

I use a Craftsman middle box (got for $49 when on sale and with coupon) in a hallway closet that has shelves in it (couldn't use a typical tool box or top box where the top hinges upward) - needed a place for that "junk drawer" kind of stuff and this fits the bill much better than any cheap plastic drawer thing.
