Craftsman model 315.17400 router

Good everything everyone... first time poster. I recently acquired my grandfathers old craftsman router and drill press. The route still seems like it’s in good working order but I can’t find the instruction manual or anything like that. I’m a novice woodworker and haven’t really fooled with a router since high school shop class so what can y’all tell me about this thing? Thanks for any help!

nice to get your grandfathers tools,
Craftsman is not the best with power tools, and if you use the router very much it will probably die in short order.
however, there's not a lot to learn about a router, I suspect you could youtube tutorials and learn enough to do some work with it. they are fairly basic to operate really.

I disagree about the quality of Craftsman routers in general. I have used them hard for years to good effect. If you send me your address I believe I have the manuals to your router.

I figure this thing is probably 40 years old and still kicking so it can’t be to bad! Haha. I’d really appreciate the instruction manual! My email is [email protected]

I had Craftsman routers from the 60's and they were ok, but by the late 70's/80's (which I believe the OP has) they changed the recipe and became **** tools. In particular, the collet is integral to the shank and not a separate piece---when it wears there is no way to repair. Also, I've had several of them literally explode when the windings got hot and let loose.

Dude I have similar one 315.17491...there is really not all that much info in manual. Bottom out your bit and zero the ring and then dial the depth you want increments and drop it by loosening the key Other than that understand how the the cutting action works.
