Craftsman Multi-Driver Oddity

Picked up this Craftsman Multi Driver with bits, sockets, and pouch recently. Bits fit into a collet with "threads" on the male end of the union. Collet nut slides down and tightens over the "threads" securing bits in the collet. A variety of bits and 1/4" drive SAE sockets (1/4"-7/16") came with it. One of the bits is the driver for sockets. No part numbers to be found. Only the long "C" block logo and patent number 2689131. Sockets are marked =v=. Cannot find any info other than the patent number on a collet shank. Anyone seen this tool before?

Did find this patent design for the number on the shank. Dates to early 1950s.
