I know there are some old threads, but what are people's thoughts on the old Craftsman Nextec?

I see a bunch on Ebay. I have the drill, right angle impact driver, and both work lights. All still work great.

I was think about moving on to the M12 lines, but these work and are paid for.

Thanks,

I bought several on a Sears blowout a few years ago. They still work great, but I would certainly consider them an entry level compared to my Milwaukee and Dewalt

I have quite a few of them. Picked up some of the oddballs after they were discontinued. Think I am up to three drills (one higher torque), two impacts, two RI impacts, bar light, flashlight, saw, oscillating w/quick release, and a hammerhead. Oh, and a heated vest. And about 8-10 batteries overall. I think the most any one tool cost was about $50, and several were much cheaper.

While I am sure the M12 stuff is nice, not worth the premium for me. Same with the M18. I get by on Porter Cable, buying clearance and discontinued. Only "new" one I bought for that is the 18ga nailer.

I am starting to wear out the clutch on my driver drill after however many years. The impact is still going strong, but my either compare to my vintage NiCad Makitas, except on battery life between uses.

Nextec stuff on ebay sells for a premium. I have sold a bunch. If your tools are in great shape you are looking at around 250 for what you have.

I'm keeping my Nextec tools. They are great "finesse" tools.

I have a right angle impact driver that I use for tight spaces, etc. I don't know why, but the Nextec stuff brings pretty good money for what they are. I want to pick up a Hammerhead, or whatever they are called.

The drill and the right angle impact seem to be the right size and fit well in the hand. Build quality is there too IMO. I like using the long work light as well.

IIRC the standard batts were 1.4ah and their "XC" version was the one with the light at 1.6ah.

For the light production work I do that means swapping batteries A LOT.

For me M12 is worth the premium w 3.0 compacts, 6.0 XC's and rapid chargers. Plus way more tools and ever-improving form factors and power output; the 3rd gen M12 stuff (for drills and impact drivers) is awesome

I ended up selling all my Nextec and Dewalt 18V on Ebay for $600 + shipping. I parted it out and went real well. Ebay kept 25% though...

I upgraded to M12 and M18. Nice Tools.

What I do not understand is the love for the Dewalt 18V stuff. I sold my 1/2" impact, Sawzall, Impact Driver and Drill for around what I paid for them 10 years ago. They still worked well, but they new M18 stuff I bought is way better.

I used mine for years, but finally gave up after smoking the drill and having a couple batteries go flat.

Then I got some m12 and basically forgot they even existed. No. Comparison

I love my Nextec stuff. I've sold off the oddball tools at a huge profit. Someone paid me $175 for the circular saw and I've sold the work lights for maybe $75 each. I'm still using the impact and the drill but the drill is really starting to wear out on me. I have a ton of batteries because Sears used to practically give them away.

I've been thinking out moving on but not sure where to go and what to to with all the old batteries.

I bought a lot of Nextec stuff when it was dirt cheap. The right angle impact was actually really handy. It wasn't too powerful to the point where it would skip out of a #2 phillips at power and it could get in some tight areas. The 3.5" circular saw could barely cut a dry 2x4. The mouse sander was ok. The drill is light but isn't that compact. My 18V Ridgid is no longer or taller. It's no where near as good as the compact Bosch or Makita drills I've used. Still, I bought the drill, impact driver for something like $50. I sold the impact driver for and led light for enough to buy my Ridgid tools.
